This month's Popular Mechanics issue featured an article where the writers of the magazine were debating whether or not to use lego bricks to make real houses. Not only that, but they have already built one! In the picture above we can see the Guinness World Record set for the largest "life-sized house made from interlocking bricks." This two story house was made with more than 3.5 million bricks!
There is still some debate on whether or not Legos can actually be used to make houses that last, but I believe that 3D printing comes very close to making it possible. Engineers have already 3D printed several houses for a few lucky families in Mexico. Hopefully, we can make many dreams come true for those families who are living in inadequate housing situations using this new technology.
The new concrete bricks can take as little as a week to make and engineers are saying that the houses, once completed, can last up to 300 years. With the proper technological developments, this could become a long-term solution to homelessness in some countries!
I can't wait to see what the applications for Legos and 3D printing will be in the future!
